My Baby is 18-24 Months Old

Your toddler is now much more aware who he/she is. They understand where they are, what they can do (such as put the spoon in the sink) and what they cannot do (such as put their favorite DVD in the player). Their cognitive development (ability to think and reason) is exploding at that this stage.

Tantrums, whining and screaming are normal toddler behaviors – although they can be bothersome for parents and caregivers. Try these tips: Identify what is setting them off. Who is really having the tantrum? If your toddler is out of control, you need to stay in control! Keep cool and don’t take it personal.

Around the eighteenth month your toddler’s verbal, mental and motor skills will take off - so clear that runway! To help build their vocabulary at this stage try playing “Where’s the ball, book, shoe, etc.”. This will help build their vocabulary while helping them understand everything has a name.

As your toddler’s memory continues to develop you can help by playing ‘Who shoes are these? Daddy’s or yours?’ Pay close attention to your now running toddler when outside, they love to escape from their caregiver if they get a chance!

Each baby/toddler develops at their own rate, if you feel your child is not developing, please contact your Pediatrician
