Buckle Up - Priority Number 1

New York state law requires children under the age 6 to ride in a federally approved car or booster seat that is appropriate for your child's height and weight. New York State recommends, but does not require, that children remain in a booster seat until they can safely use a lap/shoulder belt with their back against the seat and knees bent, where the lap belt sits low across the hips and the shoulder belt doesn't touch the neck or face. And please remember, children under age 16 are required to wear a seat belt.

Placing your child’s seat in a car can be a frustrating experience, but if the seat is not strapped in correctly it may ineffective. The links below are wonderful recourses New York State provides to help ensure your children are safe; including a link to car seat checking stations by county across New York State.
